Dr Francisco Vega-Lopez is an Honorary Consultant Physician at The Hospital for
Tropical Diseases and Consultant Dermatologist at UCL Hospitals with special interest
in Skin Infections and Tropical Dermatology, including Cutaneous Leishmaniasis,
Skin in the Immuno Compromised Host, and Skin in the Traveller. He sees out-patients
on Monday and Wednesday mornings and arranges for admission and further investigation
with Consultant colleagues.
After being awarded his medical degree in 1978 he has subsequently specialised in
Internal Medicine, Dermatology and has a Masters in Clinical Tropical Medicine,
a Certificate in Immunology and a PhD in Molecular Immunology of Leprosy.
Dr Vega-Lopez is also Professor of Dermatology at the National University of Mexico
and Head of Research Unit in Dermatology and Medical Mycology at the National Medical
Centre IMSS in Mexico City.
Apart from his special interests in Skin Infections, Tropical Dermatology, Medical
Education and Dermatological Care in the Tropics, Dr Vega-Lopez carries out research
on mycobacterial diseases, fungal infections and general dermatology in the tropics.
He is an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine
and lectures regularly at London University.
Currently he is a Council Member of the Royal Society of Tropical Medicine & Hygiene
and is a member of the British group with specific interest in skin infections and
tropical medicine; he also serves on the Mexican Board of Dermatology.
